Why what you wear matters

Please don’t throw tomatoes at me just yet, hear me out. Your soul, your personality and who you are as a person are far more important than any superficial concern and that should be your #1 priority. Trends come and go and appearances fade, it’s true, but there is more to know about what you usually wear.

Clothes have the power to influence your mood, your posture, your levels of confidence and even your feelings. Over the years, sociologists have studied how clothes affect our mind, which led to the conclusion that it’s not just what you wear but also what you think of what you wear that matters. Let’s dig deeper:

Your clothes can make you concentrate better
Scientists found that people are feeling smarter wearing a doctor’s lab coat because it’s like they are trying to live up to the expectation of the outfit, so they tend to be more careful, rigorous and very good at paying attention. I couldn’t help but wonder, should we wear doctor’s lab coats every day, at work, at university, basically whenever we need to something very important?

Your clothes can motivate you to work out
Do you know that feeling when you know you have to work out, but you just can’t muster the motivation? Try dressing in your sports clothes. This could motivate you to hit the gym. Scientist Hajo Adam said: “It’s all about the symbolic meaning that you associate with particular clothes”. I tested the theory for myself, and it’s working. I put my tight leggings on and all of a sudden, my posture changes. When you wear athletic clothing, you subconsciously become more active and more likely to work out.

Your clothing can make you happier
Do clothes reflect your mood or change it? Scientist again did the research and found out that: we dress how we’d like to feel or how we’d like others to think we’re feeling. In other words, we put on happy pants along with a happy face, even if we’re feeling down. And it works, especially if we wear clothes that have gotten us compliments or those that bring back good memories.

Your clothes should empower you
Above all mentioned before, you should dress to empower yourself. You should wear whatever puts you in the mood to conquer the world. This is the true power that your favorite shoes or jeans have. What you wear and how you wear your clothes is only about you and how you feel. You’ll always pick the right clothes and colors if you wear what you want to feel confident, secure and empowered. If you don’t have the right items, get rid of them, donate them and start to build a wardrobe that you feel more comfortable with. Long term, this is absolutely worth it.

Oh, and not to forget! Your lingerie can do magic even if no one sees it. Knowing that you are wearing a brand new, sexy undergarment will make you feel empowered all day long.

Ladies, do you agree? Is there an outfit or a piece that just makes you feel so badass? Tell me all about it in the comments. ‘Till next time, stay brave & confident!
